My parents' rotweiller mix, Kubota, died yesterday. She's been with the family longer than Robby has - since the summer of 2004. When they first got her, she was 3 years old, neglected and very mistrustful of people. Luckily, she took very well to my dad from the start and even allowed him to get down on the floor and play with her.
She was a great guard dog, threatening to bite (and in some cases, it wasn't just a threat) ANYone who got on my parents' property, friend or foe. Over time, she became more docile and started trusting family, even allowing myself and Robby in the "circle of trust" - we only visit once a month or so, so she didn't really get to know us as well as everyone else until about 2007. Even after then, if we pulled up late at night, we'd have to call my parents to let us in!
During her last year, she was becoming quite the sweetheart and I could see her eyes were full of love. We sure will miss her.
